The “Hip-Hop” tab in our Venue Finder section has one of the highest hits out of all the music genres. So we thought it would be fitting to cut to the chase and help you guys out by making a “Best Hip-Hop Clubs” list! It is hard to find venues specific to only one genre of music, in addition to venues that aren’t taken over entirely by EDM, so I’ve selected places that cater mostly to Hip-Hop music:
"Noir Est Beau" Pisces Celebration at Lexicon on 2/23. Music by DJ Will BX and DJ Don Juan. VIP package with two premium bottles (Ciroc, Hennessy or Moet Rose) at $575 inclusive of tax and gratuity.
Katra is a two-floor venue that never fails to bring the best dancing music. With a mixture of Hip-Hop and Reggae, the DJ is always on point. The crowd is mature, diverse, and in good spirits. The bartenders are usually quite good looking as well! Katra has a great happy hour and there are also random 2 for 1 specials which are always a hit. Make sure you try it out on a Friday or Saturday, those are the best nights to go! VIP packages start at $300. Two bottles of Ciroc, champagne and hookah at $500.
The 40/40 Club, owned by major Hip-Hop inspiration Jay Z, is a casual sports bar turned dance lounge late night based in Chelsea. This 12,000 square foot venue has an All-American décor spread throughout the lounge and VIP rooms complete with TV’s, pool tables, hardwood floors, and grand portraits of famous athletes. In the main area, you will find levels of tables/seating as well as the floor to ceiling display of Ace of Spades champagne. With major flat screens for all sports lovers, 40/40 is the spot to be when a big game is going on. Dinner and Drinks package at $40. VIP packages start at $350.
Taj II Lounge is a hookah lounge but rather than establishing a Moroccan theme, it is inspired by nightlife in India. It’s always a great spot to hear a mix of many genres of music including Hip-Hop, Reggae, old school, and Top 40. And if you love to dance, Taj is where you should go. One of the most popular nights at Taj is their Latin Mondays. VIP offers start at $300 with a two Ciroc bottles + champagne + hookah package at $500.
Le Souk, which can be found between Bleeker and Houston St., is a traditional hookah spot that plays slow Hip-Hop and R&B. The Moroccan food is an experience not to be missed, and the easy-going music creates a smooth and relaxing atmosphere. The new Luv Wednesdays is all hip hop while Twerk Mondays awards a free bottle of champagne to the best twerker. Moroccan Feast with champagne at $60/person and VIP offers start at $500 for premium bottle, champagne and hookah.
Under Bar in Harlem, a new player on the club scene, is an intimate lounge setting tucked away with a secret entrance below the Row House restaurant. Soul Wednesdays is one of the city's top afterwork parties and weekend nights attract an upsclae crowd. Bubbles Package with 2 bottles of Moet or Veuve at $250 with a two premium bottle VIP offer at $500.
Hudson Terrace in Hell's Kitchen features NYC's biggest rooftop dance floor with retractable roof for all weather. Expect hip hop, top 40 and EDM music from some of the city's best DJs. VIP packages start at $350 with birthday and bachelorette party specials available as well.
The Attic is just a couple blocks West of Times Square, but the rooftop setting makes it feel worlds away. The lounge features a great afterwork setting on the patio before kicking into dance club mode on Thursday night and weekends. VIP packages start at $400.
Sky Room in Hell's Kitchen on the West Side of Manhattan resides on the rooftop of the Fairfield Inn Hotel. The stunning lounge features a Wednesday after workparty and weekend events that feature the city's best hip hop DJs. Seating areas both inside and out on the patio with breathtaking views of the city skyline and a great look at the Empire State Building.
Jimmy's Midtown, located just South of Times Square, brings high energy and the city's best hip hop and Latin DJs. VIP packages start at $200 for one premium bottle, one champagne, hookah and birthday cake.
The Anthony on Bleecker Street in Grenwich Village is a high-end and trendy lounge scene. VIP packages at $1000 for groups.
bOb Bar is an old school, laid back bar with a great music reputation. The music selection at bOb Bar specializes in late 70’s to early 90’s Hip-Hop classics with a touch of modern songs. The very simple layout makes it so the bar will get crowded and quickly, however, it is quite easy to move around in. There’s also always available seating for when you’re tired from all that dancing! This is the place to be if you’re going casual, want to be around a fun and nice crowd, and are looking to jam to some tunes that will take you back.
The Bell House in Brooklyn holds a monthly Hip-Hop dance party called “The Rub” every last Saturday of the month. It’s been described as the best “Hip-Hop dance party” you can find with music that will take you back to the good ol’ days. It’s got all the greatest hits from the 80’s, including Michael Jackson, Ginuwine, The Spice Girls etc. It’s a refreshing difference from the techno scene found nowadays at most events. Everyone that goes to The Rub is looking to have a blast listening to classics and dance, dance, dance. Ask anyone about this event, and you’ll hear nothing but great things.
Last but certainly not least, Secret Lounge is a hidden gem. It’s a small lounge in the heart of Chelsea that attracts many from the gay community. That being said, this is one of the only places where cover charge for girls ($20) exceeds the going rate for guys ($5-$15). It feels like an underground speakeasy with dim-lighting, red couches and chandeliers. There’s a lot of dancing, friendly bartenders, and a sexy vibe. The DJ plays a mixture of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Reggae. But it’s been said that if you don’t like Hip-Hop, you shouldn’t come here without looking up what DJ is playing because most likely, that will be the music of choice.
